Backing Options

Patch Backing Options

Choose the backing that works best for how you plan to use your patch.

Iron On

Best for: clothing, bags, jackets, blankets and fabric items

Iron on backing is a heat activated option that allows your patch to be attached with a household iron or heat press.

This is a great choice when you want a clean, finished look without sewing.

For best results, follow our iron on instructions carefully. Some fabrics may not be suitable for heat.

Sew On

Best for: frequent washing, long term use and delicate fabrics

Sew on backing is the most secure option and works well for items that will be washed often or used heavily.

This option is also best for fabrics that should not be exposed to heat.

Sew on patches can be stitched by hand or machine around the edge of the patch.

3M Peel & Stick

Best for: temporary placement, party favors, displays and quick use

3M peel and stick backing works like a sticker. Simply peel away the liner and press the patch onto a clean surface.

Peel and stick backing is designed for easy, temporary placement with no heat or sewing required.

After removal, the patch can still be reused by sewing it on or applying your preferred adhesive.

Which Backing Should I Choose?

Choose iron on if you want an easy fabric application and your item can safely handle heat.

Choose sew on if you want the strongest attachment, especially for items that will be washed often.

Choose 3M peel and stick if you want a quick, no heat option for temporary use.

Additional Attachment Options

In addition to the backing options offered at checkout, some customers choose to attach patches using fabric glue, hot glue or specialty adhesives such as E6000.

These methods can vary in durability depending on the surface and use. If you plan to use your own preferred glue you would order the sew on version of the patch.
